Method

Using an object oriented approach, façade elements were programmed that have specific characteristics and behaviors. The elements detect their position in an overall system, their global height and their individual neighbors. They also react to irregularities in the configuration, such as corners or gaps, and pass on information to neighboring elements.
The visual appearance of the façade can be easily adjusted using this approach and the information gathered by each individual object.

This adaptive façade system was used for several competition entries at Staab Architekten.
